COMMENT TE DIRE ADIEU
Comment te dire adieu, and in which language? Ach.
Let’s try social network speak. If I had a relationship status on FB its latest update would read: went from it’s complicated to it’s over. Yes, I’m officially single again. I parted with my job as style columnist for SonntagsZeitung.
Truly loved writing PLAYWATCH. But now I feel I must go into a different direction in order to move on as a blogger, writer, photographer. I feel just not so into snapping street trends anymore. Too much of the same internationally and way too many photographers during Fashion Weeks. And do Swiss mainstream readers really bother about all that cutting-edge fashion stuff so much? I really doubt it. As an opinionated style blogger with global readership, I receive high-end requests and invites to fashion shows, and, increasingly from luxury brands as an expert. As a fashion columnist in Switzerland, perhaps I can aspire to the status of a one- person-freak-show. Another dilemma: With photography, I try to find beauty (often in the banal and ugly), in my writing, I try to explore the often absurd gap between glamorous (fashion) fiction and reality. It works great with the blog. In the more conventional world of printed press, maybe separating the two works out better.
In the end, I’m just not much into fashion in terms of must-buys, designer labels or latest trends. But I love writing about fashion because it’s such a great communicator (Gesprächsstoff, wie wir das auf deutsch wunderbar sagen können). It’s so much part of our everday life, everyone has an opinion about it, no-one can really escape it, even those who try hard to. I find fashion’s just about the best and easiest way to comment now-time. Why don’t we get to read more about that instead of the n-th article on luxury labels? Fashion writing needs new clothes. I hope I can contribute a few inputs
Also, I don’t want to compromise on my FB activities like Barbourgate (here & hier), which appear to be a massive problem or even threat to some sections of my journalist colleagues in the media capital of Zurich. All I can say is: do a better job/research instead of reporting me to FB or the paper.
There’s no denying the whole breakup process has been v straining personally and emotionally. But there’s a number of v cool international projects coming up we can all look forward to.
Maybe Playwatch will strike it lucky with another partner, let’s keep our fingers crossed. Meanwhile, Playwatchers will be served by PLAYLUST KOMPAKT on Playlust and via Ron Orp’s Newsletter. Out every fortnight (alle 2 Wochen).

PLAYWATCH: SIZE MATTERS
(My new Playwatch-column for Swiss Sunday paper SonntagsZeitung is out today. It’s about fashion’s new erogenous zones. I tried to sum it up between the lines.):
“Es war dunkel. Regen sammelte sich in Pfützen auf dem Trottoir. Da stiess ich beinahe mit einem kastenförmigen Pelzmantel zusammen. Daraus staken zwei seidenbestrumpfte Beine. Es waren perfekte Beine. Wohlgeformt wie die eines jungen Mädchens. Sie gehörten Ljuba Manz, der Hausherrin der Nobelherberge St.Gotthard am Fuss der Zürcher Bahnhofstrasse.

This is not Lady GaGa, this is Ljuba Manz, the flamboyant owner of the flamboyant luxury hotel St.Gotthard on Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse.

© SF/Reporter
Frau Manz, a former dancer, has got a great pair of legs. She finds ‘legs are a woman’s best friends even if they may part one day’
I love Frau Manz’s legs et al, but I do find today’s erogenous zones of fashion are definitely to be found in the accessory department, namely GaGaesque jewellery and fascinators.

For instance, the only acceptable way to make a lady moustache look sexy is to style it with a fabulous feather piece by Zurich-based designer Monika Milakovich.

PLAYWATCH-KOLUMNE: RADIKALE FRISCHZELLENKUR
(in plain English: On Sunday, my latest Playwatch column appeared in Swiss Sunday paper ‘SonntagsZeitung’. I looked around this year’s Swiss Textiles Award. Faced with the rather geriatric face of fashion business, I felt this: get a radical facelift. Now!)

STATUS DUVET
If I was asked to define the Zurich look with a single piece of clothing I would no doubt choose the Moncler duvet jacket. Between October and March, it’s all over the place, like a uniform. You can find Monclers in all colours of the rainbow. But most prefer the black classic. Very, very scary. I never liked the look. Until I spotted this vest version worn as obi belt.

PLAYWATCH ZURICH REPORT OUT TODAY
The Zurich look? Prosecco meets sausage and it’s love at first sight. A blend of classic high bourgeois understatement typically found in the posh hillside area of Zürichberg and deep red light district. Airport-luxury rules, there’s lots of statement bags by Longchamp-Vuitton-Gucci, and duvet jackets by Moncler… It all seems very styled, very uniform, very conformist. Particularly so amongst the hipster set.
How come? I honestly don’t know – well, I don’t peek into other people’s underpants, do I…

PLAYWATCH BERNE-REPORT
READ IN TODAY’S SONNTAGSZEITUNG PAPER / TRENDBUND:
What they wear in the Swiss capital and in particular why it is dangerous to wear high heels and orange Hermès-bags in public. A little teaser:
As usual, the pictures tell an entirely different story, celebrating those who dare to stand out.
SAVE THE DATE: PLAYWATCH ZURICH REPORT OUT SEPT 20
A little hint: this prosecco life or why they keep telling me about their plastic surgeries.

PLAYWATCH BASEL SPECIAL
PLAYWATCH, my monthly style page for Swiss Sunday paper Sonntagszeitung is going on grand style tour across Swiss cities. First destination: Basel.
A city noted for its ostentatious disinterest in fashion, it hosts the greatest annual fashion week (Art Basel), the only fashion college in Switzerland, and was home to Fred Spillmann, the greatest couturier this country has ever had.
You can read the whole article online (in German language)
Coming up: Bern (August 30), Zurich (September 13)

STIL AHOI
the scene: city canal, Zurich
I love uniforms. In fact, I still bear a grudge against the Swiss school system which doesn’t support them. In my teenage years, I went through a navy blazer phase which didn’t win me many friends at school but did go well with my Benetton collegiate jumpers. Funnily enough though, I quit navy and preppy as soon as I left school. Never looked back. Until yesterday when I spotted this model citizen in the navy Vibskov pants and Ralf Lauren logo blazer. The look so wowed me, I decided navy and gold would be my summer colours. Now I’ve got the trousers and the aviatiors sorted, all I need is a navy blazer. And yacht access. Any suggestions?
